    Talking Just Keeps Growin!!

Noticed on ATC's website that the new distance of the AT is now 2172.6 miles. An increase of 3.8 miles. Seems there has been a major relo around Watauga Lake that caused the increase. Just keeps growin longer and longer. Just one more excuse to spend another day on the trail... like we really need another excuse!!!

Anyone know what the relo at Watauga Lake is?

That's the relo we worked on after trail days. I don't remember it being that long. I think it was supposed to be a little over two miles, and include a new shelter to come later.

Trying to think what the relo would of eliminated. Senility is a terrible thing. Pond Flats?? Ohhh, now that would REALLY break my heart.

    Default NJ Boardwalk

Did the new boardwalk in NJ shorten the trail? Seems like it should have. It eliminated a long road walk.

Yup. Shortens it a lot. There's another relo opening soon between Tenn. 91 and Double Springs shelter. It will knock off approx 1.5 miles and is much more scenic. Follows the original route across open fields.

If it gets in any longer it won't be worth doing. I mean: I can probably walk 2168.1 miles, but 2172.6 - that's pushing it. That extra 4.5 miles could be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Default Relo before Moreland Gap Shelter

That relo is supposed to bring you to another waterfall according to Bob Peoples of Kincora. Plus adds about two miles to that section.
