I know sobo class of '11 had quite a few gap year students. Including myself, I think there were at least 5. Most people you run into will be slightly older though.

ME-GA '85 just chiming in here - being a SOBO is being a member of a proud little clan.
You'll be part of a proud little clan, SOBO '85
what do you mean?
I'll be headin out in early to mid July. I'm 22 and made my way from Springer to Front Royal, VA. in 2011. I had a dumb ankle injury early on in my hike last year that ate most of my funds and cost me half my trip. I'm really excited for this SOBO however after my experience going north. I'm hoping the crowds will be smaller which from everything I've collected they should be. And the weather will definitely be way better (the rain doesnt bug me its the heat, and I landscape in Florida for a living! lol). Anyways my trail name is Tour Guide, and I'm "tree" friendly if you catch my drift. Hope to see you on the trail, and when you get out there keep up the mentality that you don't really need a hiking buddy, because you don't! Hike your own hike! It took me 200 miles last year to really learn that, but once I did my hike was way more enjoyable.
I'm 20 and heading SOBO starting june 6th.
I'm 20 and my partner is 23 were leaving June 26. We're hitting the east coast's baseball fields before we start the trail.. I love my baseball our last game is in Boston on the 24 so our begin date is hopefully the 26, maybe the 27 if needed.
im planning on doing a sobo trip early july after i graduate. feel free to hit me up if your looking for the company.
I did A SOBO at age 18. I hiked about 200 miles with my friend Stretch who completed a SOBO at age 18 in 2008 -- best of luck to you - I'm a little jealous - - Stretch hooked up with some experienced (older) hikers who helped him a lot early on (even though he was an experienced backpacker) - later, he fell in with a more collegiate aged crowd - worked out well. Have fun! Be safe.
Im leaving sometime between mid June and mid July.
I'm a senior in High School, deferring my first year (maybe semester) of college.
I'll be starting my SOBO hike end of June / very beginning of July.
how are you all getting to Maine? can you all tell me the closest airport to Baxter. I'm trying to get my flight booked soon.
Thanks
Had a successful SoBo hike last year. Check out my blog on facebook!
