Hiking in Hawaii 2009 - the Big Island

Now I see there's an observatory on Mauna Loa as well as Mauna Kea.

Yeah, we've got a facility on both. The atmospheric observatory on Mauna Loa came long before anything up on Mauna Kea. They do a variety of stuff up there. It's interesting to walk around MLO and look at all the relics.

Camojack, I meant to pick your brain a bit at the winter warmer on Hawaii. I was there with my brother keystone, I was with him drinking the "G" juice on mary's porch. I am heading to Hawaii in Oct. for 10 days or so on honeymoon and looking to do some hiking,kayaking,zipline and such. I don't know about the overnighters being its a honeymoon but maybe. I know she is up for a all day hike or so. I'm not sure even what islands I wanna hit or stay on. How expensive or easy is it to island hop? I know I want to stay on 2 different islands and I want to hike and have a bit of nightlife, any ideas?
