Another section hiker here.... around same age... Brother-in-law and I have been doing sections hikes for the last 5 years. I was using Solomon shoes and he was using Keen and other brands before that. Section hike thru the Smokies killed our feet. This years section hike we both switched out to Altra Lone Peaks. We also moved to Ininji toe liners and socks. Did 70 mile section (Hot Springs to Uncle Johnny's) this year and total game changer in these shoes and socks. Large toe box that kind of looks like a clown shoe but it works! Just some input here for you, good luck in your search and hope you find what you need.

Many people have complained about the durability of Altras, but I've owned a couple dozen (at least) pairs, and haven't had any problems, and some of the pairs were put through many miles of trail running in the mountains. Of course, YMMV.

There are versions of the Lone Peak, Timp, and Olympus with ankle support.

Are you able to order from Amazon?
Maybe order 3-4 different shoes, keep the ones you like the best, and send the others back?

I tried Altras but didn't like the lack of lateral stability due to the wide toe box. On side slopes I felt my feet slide sideways in my shoe. I settled on Brooks Cascadis, another very popular trail runner. They have a more traditional fit. Perhaps I have narrow feet? Bottom line is every foot is different.
