No huge deal, but practice due diligence on the FT South of Pat's Trail Head and the 1/2 mile south of the 19 marker due to a LARGE black bear on the trail yesterday afternoon. I saw him. He saw me, and turned down the trail and into the brush.

Seems to be what most do. Most of my photos were bear butts in retreat mode.
Wow, a bear in the woods.
I've seen one near there while coming down the hill just past the 19 intersection.
Muddy, the rumors are true!
Florida has quite a few bears, pretty small mostly, in spite of no mountains, or hills.
Florida was considered a wasteland of swamps and mosquitos, largely unsuitable for farming . So it wasnt really settled until 20th century. Paper companies were able to buy up large swaths of land, which preserved habitat.
Unlike MS, AL, LA, TX, etc. Where bears were wiped out essentially. Like most of the US flat lands.

pardon my ignorance, but where and what is "19 Marker"?
I've been wanting to get out on some parts of the FT, really only because it's close to home for me
Per guthook, Mile 423 crosses SR19....thats my guess of reference point
