Thread: New Stove

    Default New Stove

There are two new backpack type stoves by Camp Chef. They both look very much like the MSR Reactor/Primus ETA/Jetboil type. What is intriguing to me is that one of them uses propane fuel, perhaps to make it a cool weather option.

Check them out: Camp Chef Stryker

Propane is worse then the typical 'iso' canisters in cold weather, but cheaper and may be more available in certain areas.

I'd heard propane was preferred over isobutane for cooler weather but haven't actually tested it myself.

    I did find this article.
"I have been pondering the use of propane for winter camping because it burns down to -44 degrees fahrenheit (isobutane/propane mixes stop at about 15 degrees)"

Here is a nice comparison of properties.

    Some thoughts -- http://adventuresinstoving.blogspot....e-propane.html

Not so much cold, but the weight of a propane cannister to contain the pressure at higher temperatures.

I'm really liking the Optifuel stove that Optimus released this year. Burns most fuels including canister in upright or upside down modes. Might be my next addition to the gear collection.
