17 May 2010, Atkins We took a zero day today because Hopper was still not feeling well. We went to breakfast at The Barn Restaurant. I ate something called the 2x4, which is two eggs, two pancakes, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of sausage, and two biscuits with gravy on them. That was a lot to eat and it did fill me up. As we were walking back from breakfast Seven D's and another hiker were heading out from the motel. Funky Monkey, Gonzo and a few ...
I just started section hiking the AT. My wife likes to day hike but has given up camping or certainly overnight hiking, especially multiple days. She likes a hot shower after hiking all day, doesn't like bugs, doesn't like smelling and especially doesn't like using cat holes and going outdoors in the woods. All things I can agree with and understand. She can't understand why I enjoy going out for a week or more hiking and dealing with all the discomfort. I really can't explain why I just really ...
16 May 2010, Atkins Hopper was very sick this morning and she is my hiking partner and more right now. She has a growth within her that she needs some medications for it. I ran into Charlie in town today. He said he was in Atkins but was getting off the trail now. He had a heart bypass last fall and he explained that he was having trouble on the uphill’s now and needed to get it looked at. He also said if it was as easy as getting a stint put in ...
14 May 2010, Damascus Today was Friday, the day when things really start happening at Trail Days. Bismarck and I had talked about doing another slack pack to get us a little further north but I decided not to because I did not want to miss some of the events. I checked in to Ruby's Rest today. I made reservations earlier in the hike for this place. It is a really nice place; I wished I had known about this place in my past visits to Damascus. I ...
