Description by Irish Eddy
For northbounders, approximately 0.9 mile north of the Alec Kennedy Shelter, the A.T. reaches the summit of Center Point Knob (1060 feet elevation) in Pennsylvania. For many years this location was the actual center point of the Appalachian Trail when the southern terminus of the trail was Mount Oglethorpe and not Mount Springer. Hence, the name Center Point Knob. This is a view of the monument on the summit of Center Point Knob. SoBo 1070.1 NoBo 1109.0
