The vertical headstones at left and right mark the graves of Graves of William and David Shelton, who lived in NC but enlisted with the Union and were killed by Confederate troops as they made their way home. The stone in the middle is the grave of Millard F. Haire, born 1850, died 1863.

According to Model T's book "Walkin' with Ghost Whisperers" young Millard was the first to be killed by Confederate soldiers as he came out of the cabin Millard, Wm. and David Shelton (and others) were staying. They were all buried near the location they were killed.
