    Pretty bird, easy to get close to because they taste so awful there's not a lot of critters that will choose to eat them except out of desperation.

    Pheasants have distinctively LONG tailfeathers.

    I can't see the head real well but with that red spot near the eye I would say that is a spruce partridge. Pheasants often prefer the ground. No long tail either.
