Will this be the "new" AT in Baxter?
There's a new (2002) blue blazed trail leading from the Information Kiosk to The Birches site. It follows an old jeep trail most of the way and then wiggles thru stumpage and bear habitat. The Baxter State Park folks *might* reroute the AT onto this trail - someday soon.

I hope not as the route along the Penobscot/Nsowadnehunk is far more scenic. Although the blueberries in season are plentiful and delicious. This trail is direct and northbounders at this point maybe would like the idea of cutting a few miles off their trek at this point, at the expense of some views.
