So it's hard to tell from this angle but if you saw her tail you could tell it was a Gravid female. Very fat and ready to drop babies... -

How do you find all of these snakes? Its impressive!
I love snakes, but I don't think I have ever seen one while hiking. I'm sure they have seen me, however! -

Snakes like to be in the full or partial sun when it is cool or early in the day. Look in open sunny areas when the the temps are cool or just warming up.
