I encountered a ice floe like this near the top of Mt. Everett in southwest Massachusetts in late March 1975. The path was wider and entirely covered in without any way to bushwhack around it. Somehow we managed to cover the 20 uphill yards past the ice, but then we had to turn around and slide back down as we had missed the turnoff to the old lean-to that was up there due to the fog, snow, and sleet!
