I remember that tower from our section hike in March 1975! There was a lean-to just north of the summit (since removed) that we stayed in after a very wet and cold 12-mile day from Sheffield. The light rain got heavier as we ascended and turned to sleet in dense fog. We were in the first stages of hypothermia, although we didn't know what that was at the time. It took a very long time to warm up in our sleeping bags, and no one wanted to get up to cook dinner.The next morning dawned sunny, but with a layer of solid clouds just below the lean-to. So, we didn't bother to climb the tower as there would be nothing to see.
