The first Long Trail shelter (not counting Journey's End, which is not officially on the LT) that my brother and I stayed at in August 1979. We literally ran the mile and a half from the summit of North Jay Peak on a 96-degree day when we heard the rumbling of an approaching thunderstorm, arriving just as huge fat raindrops came spattering down. This was the first of 21 of 26 days of rain we encountered!
