Description by cabeza de vaca
This is a view of the rear of Bald Mountain Shelter in Tennessee not far from Big Bald and Big Stamp. The shelter is located at 5,100 feet and as such, is one of the highest shelter locations on the AT. Camping around the shelter is discouraged due to the fragile environment. The shelter offers accommodation for 10 hikers in two rows of platforms, one above the other. There is a wire fencing below the lowest platform to contain the critters. 28JUL2005
