For northbounders, after the second crossing of Washington Monument Road, the A.T. follows the road and traverses a parking lot for the Washington Monument. The A.T. then makes a 90 degree turn to the right and merges with an access trail from the parking lot to the Washington Monument. At the edge of the parking lot is an historical marker noting that the monument was used as a signal by Union forces during the Antietam Campaign. SoBo 1145.8. NoBo 1032.5
