North of the Quarry Gap Shelter, the A.T. begins a steep ascent from approximately 1400 feet elevation to almost 2000 feet elevation onto Big Pine Flat Ridge. The ascent is eased somewhat by a long log stairway. This is a view of the A.T. looking north from a location approximately 0.4 mile north of the Quarry Gap Shelter. SoBo 1103.2 NoBo 1075.9.
