This stone was placed by the relatives of Millard Haire in his memory. Haire, 13 years old at the time of his death, was in the company of David and William Shelton when they were ambushed by Confederate sympathizers in July 1863 while on leave from their Union companies. The gravestones were erected about 1915. (36 degrees 3.068 North, 82 degrees 37.076 West, 4,471 feet elevation) The site is about 3.4 miles north of Jerry's Cabin and 2.5 miles south of Flint Mountain Shelter. This photo was taken 25JUN2005
