We had 3.5 miles to go to get to that hostel in the 100-mile Wilderness. He wanted one of those 1-pound hamburgers like we all did. I was kinda tired of hiking that day, so I offered to treat for his Sherpa services. Of course any thru-hiker needs more than one measly 1-pound hamburger, so he put another friends pack to his chest to make three total including his own, and definitely earned himself dinner that night.
Funny thing is, our two friends ahead of us blew the air horn before we even got to the lake and we both had to run the last half mile so we wouldn't miss the boat. Fine for me, but he actually kind of messed his back up doing it. -
