So how did you happen to look up into the tree and find him? -

It was startled a little to get into the air when I approached that part of the trail. But it soon came down from a higher perch to the branch right above the trail looking down at me. We stared at each for quite a few minutes. The owl seemed to be very comfortable with human presence, a very friendly creature with a funny looking.
