Description by Irish Eddy
The Pogo Memorial Campsite has a nice spring and a good privy with many terrific camp sites. For northbounders, the campsites and privy are located immediately adjacent and to the east of the trail, and the spring is located immediately adjacent and to the west of the trail. Pogo is built on the former site of the Black Rock Hotel that flourished here from the mid 1800s to 1880 when it burned. It was later rebuilt in 1907-20. Pogo was established in honor of Walter 'Pogo' Rheinheimer 1958-74, who drowned in a canoe accident near Harper's Ferry. This is a view of the trail looking south from the campsite. SoBo 1138.7. NoBo 1039.6.
