Bear Hollow Shelter is in Division 10 of the Long Trail in Vermont, 53.6 miles south of the trail's northern terminus at the Vermont/Quebec border.
I remember leaving this shelter early in the morning after an overnight stay and smelling wood smoke, yet there was no one I could find in the immediate area who had a campfire. That's weird, I thought, and pushed on. Later in the day I commented to someone I met that it sure was hazy out. That's not haze in the air, that's smoke from a big forest fire in Quebec, I was told. So that explained my early morning wood smoke odor.
