Thank you StarLyte! I proposed on Springer back in July of '06 and we decided then it would be the perfect place for us to marry. October 29, 2006 could not have been a more perfect day! (a huge front passed through the day before and we were worried as it brought high winds, heavy rain, and lightning!) To answer your question though, we did hike up from Nimblewill Gap on FS 42 because we had a handful of family/friends who might not appreciate hiking the way we do. It was the perfect distance for them and allowed us to pack in pump pots full of coffee and a huge assortment of fried pies/muffins/casseroles/etc. that were enjoyed at the Springer Mountain shelter afterwards (the few guys staying at the shelter hit gold!). Both of us have previously done the Approach trail though. We hiked to Standing Indian campground, via Long Branch Trail at Glassmine Gap, for our honeymoon....it was perfect. We are section hikers and have hiked from Springer to TN 91 just south of Damascus. In a few years we hope to tru-hike southbound with the idea of finishing on Springer for our anniversary. Hope to see you out there some day! - Silver Potato & Colleen (whom we have not found the right trail name just yet)
