Popolopen Creek swim hole and waterfall. Less than a half mile from where the AT meets the Bear Mountain Bridge, walk north on 9W, look for the red blaze Popolopen Gorge trail, follow this down to the swim hole, watch out for the poison ivy.

AKA Hell Hole, a teenage girl was killed there a few weeks ago when she slipped and fell onto rocks. -

I would highly recommend against swimming and climbing here. Not only is it illegal, but many fatalilties have occured at this spot. In addition to the girl already mentioned, there have been several falls and drownings... most memorable to me, the fatal fall of 1982 thru-hiker Chris Deffler, whose name appeared for an untold number of years in the Appalachian Trailway news-memorial section.
