    Frankly, since this photo was taken in the early 70's, I can't remember for sure. I'm pretty sure that the Trail crossed this mess but didn't follow it for long.

    This looks like it could be the River of Rocks, which is located near the Hawk Mountain-Pinnacle area. It is a glacial feature locatd at the bottom of the mountain. It is not part of the AT.

    Looks similar to the "Devils Race Course" in Maryland...I`m sure it was created by the same sort of geological event
