I tried to capture the scene National Geographic did in their magazine article but failed to do it. A beautiful setting but a long hike from the trail.

Yes, the big bullfrogs were still there when we visited. I scared several as I walked around the pond to get this shot. There was a hornets nest in the roof of the shelter. We were very careful not to disturb them!
I can't remember the year but National Geographic did an article on the AT and one of the pictures was of this shelter looking across the Pond. It's much better than mine. -

Cool shelter with the pond out front. I noticed a large piece of old concrete out by the pond. I wonder how long this pond has been here and what the history of it is. An old homestead or farm?
