Looking mysterious in the fog above Skylight Pond. A great log cabin with lots of space. There is a spring near the shoreline of the pond that fails in drought. The lodge is just below the ridgeline where one can catch a sunset from a ledge. A GMC caretaker site with a fee.

My brother and I rolled into this lodge after a 21-mile day during our August 1979 LT thru-hike, catching a nice sunrise the next morning.

I stayed here first in '81, but it was the older camp structure then which was pretty dilapitated and loaded with carpenter ants. The current shelter was built in 1987. Back in '81 there were still visible signs of the old shelter dump with tons of rusting cans and old bottles, a practice which was suspended back in the 1960s sometime.

    Great misty mountain shot.
