This was taken April 9th, 2011 along the Foothills Trail near Whitewater Falls, North Carolina. I am not sure of what kind of bird this is but suspect it is a Peregin Falcon..any help with ID would be greatly appreciated

I would have to say adult broad-winged hawk because of the single white band on a dark tail. Possibly a dark morph bird, which would be rare for that area but not impossible

Broad-winged Hawk. I had to lighten the photo on my screen to see the pattern of the tail bands. Falcon wings would be narrower and very pointed at the tips.
