    Baer Rocks
Baer is a common German family name encountered throughout this portion of Pennsylvania. A family by the name of Baer once lived nearby and it is for them that the rocks are named, not the animal.

John Baer, a local school teacher who may have been a relative led BMECC members to Tri-county Corner in 1926 where work commenced on The Skyline Trail as the A.T. was then known.

The name Skyline Trail now designates the connector between the A.T. and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary's North Lookout.
