Bascom Lodge is beautiful. Purched at the summit of Mt Greylock, Bascom Lodge is one of the jewels along the AT. Built in 1933 the building is genuinely rustic, donning hard wood floors with a finish only 70 years can paint. The lodge’s stone exterior has protected the lodge for the past 70 years. The exterior stones look like the stones you will hike over to reach Mt. Greylock’s summit and the lodge. From the summit tower you can see on an average clear day MA, NY, VT, NH and CT. The meals are very filling, but you must get on the list early or eat some other way. The caretakers are all good people. Ambience is not the only draw of Bascom Lodge for AT hikers. For a fee you can shower at Bascom Lodge. The showers are small, but warm and clean.
