After a bit of above-treeline, here's where a northbound hiker drops back into the scrub. The mean downhill awaits the unsuspecting hiker not far from here.

Great photo. It was totally fogged in when I summited about 6:30 pm in September 2006 as a thunderstorm had just whipped through as I ascended Moosilauke from Glencliff. You couldn't even see these cairns from the old foundation at the summit, and I almost headed down the wrong trail. I crouched behind a big rock to pull out my guidebook, which informed me that I had to make a sharp left turn at the foundation.
