Near the summit of Mt. Greylock you'll pass through a Montane boreal forest surrounded by sphagnum moss bogs.

    Re: Bog bridges
When I went through in July 1976 they didn't have the bog bridges. I was dehydrated in the hot sun walking up Jane's Nose to this boggy area. The little wooden logs disappeared under more than a foot of water, forcing me to try to hop from tree-to-tree. I eventually missed a foot placement and sank knee-deep with a 50-pound pack on my back. My leg cramped and I was in agony for awhile trying to figure out how to get through, but I eventually made it to the summit but had to push on as night was near. Of course, I lost the AT on the way and just managed to cruise into the shelter after my first 20-mile day.
