I do not know what type of bird this is. I am pretty sure that it is an escapee from the Pawling Mountain Club a private hunting club that boarders the AT near the Telephone Pioneer Shelter. I saw two of them this day and have seen the remains of them near the trail either Bobcat or Coyote kills. Anyone know what type of bird this is?

    Thats different than a Hungarian Partridge right? I don't think that they are native to this area are they? I do recall hearing about them out west.

    It is a Chukara and yes it would have been a released bird
