Re: rod hollow shelter
The February 1987 issue of National Geographic Magazine, Volume 171, Number 2, Page 223, shows a photograph of Potomac Appalachian Trail Club members raising roof beams of this shelter as it was under construction. "A Tunnel Through Time: The Appalachian Trial" article in this issue was only the second time National Geographic Magazine featured the AT. The first time was a year after Earl Shaffer completed the first thru-hike of the trail, in its August 1949 issue: "Skyline Trail from Maine to Georgia". Time for another feature in your magazine, National Geographic. -

Re: rod hollow shelter
I thought that the Punchbowl Shelter was also showcased in a National Geographic article at some point?
