View To The West From Cheoah Bald

The 2010 AT Guide lists a spring 0.1 miles west of Cheoah Bald, while other guides do not mention water. I decided to try to find the spring and started walking downhill, veering slightly to the right of center. I finally ran into a grassy woods road at the bottom of the Bald area. A few hundred feet further I found a sign for Mudcap Spring on the left, which led down a little-used path marked by colored plastic to a small spring. Bring a dipping cup, and plan on something closer to a 0.8 mile roundtrip! (May 2011)
