This single grave contains the remains of both David Shelton, Union Soldier in Co. C, 3rd NC Mounted Infantry and his relative William Shelton, Union Soldier of Co. E, 2nd NC Infantry. While on leave visiting family in the area, they were ambushed and killed here by Confederate loyalist during Civil War. The gravestones were erected about 1915. (36 degrees 3.068 North, 82 degrees 37.076 West, 4,471 feet elevation) The site is about 3.4 miles north of Jerry's Cabin and 2.5 miles south of Flint Mountain Shelter. This photo was taken 25JUN2005
