At the top of South Mountain in Washington Monument State Park, MD, the A.T. passes near the first monument dedicated to the memory of George Washington built by the citizens of Boonsboro, MD, on July 4, 1827. I hikes this section again with my son, Hooligan, and this is a view from the top of the monument. SoBo 1145.4. NoBo 1032.9.
