I have a picture somewhere of a double cloud layer with clouds blanketing the Dead River area completely, then a break with the sun streaming through and another layer of higher clouds above. A buddy and I had been navigating around Mt. Washington's summit cone and shoulders all day, getting a better feel for everything and plotting magnetic compass courses for different legs of different trails. We were pretty tired and in a bit of a rush at the end of the day to get down. Then the sky opened up for us and gave us that view. We stopped and watched until the clouds closed back in again, said a few prayers then worked our way back down Boot Spur. That was a memorable day.
