One of the locals told us about a root he called "ramps" that was growing all around Doll Flats area. We picked a mess and fried them up in a lil olive oil with some fiddlehead fern we found. Went great in our spaghetti. Mmmmm good!

So how long did it take for you to get the smell of ramps off of you? i had some at a ramp feed in WVA and there was no getting the smell off me for 3 days. I love em though

did anyone take a picture of what the plant actually looked like? they look like green onions...i'm assuming that's the smell that chaco taco is referring to - but i can't be sure.

are there any references/handbooks on other "foods" that can be found on the trail? i have a healthy dose of fear after watching "into the wild" and the guy's ileus. ugh.

i think you will find that fried ramps do not smell. great with potatoes.
