There are many fully enclosed shelters on the Long Trail north of Maine Junction but this is the only one on the AT. The front door slides and inside there are bunks and a wood stove. The spring is great.

SugarHigh and I stayed at this shelter after a very cold, wet, and windy day. the previous day was no better and there was snow fall earlier. we traveled far because there was nothing else to do and there were rumors about the cabin at spruce peak, and a wood stove. it didn't take long for S.H. (a.k.a. pyro; a standing joke because he kept the Pearsburg church[holy friends] blazed in the days he spent there) to ge a blazing fire going. in no time everything was dry. also trail angels left booze here.

about 50-100 feet away is a great view into manchester center.
