    Actually these are dewberries and not blackberries. Both dewberries and blackberries belong to the genus Rubus which is one of the hardest genus in the plant kingdom to bring plant belonging to this genus to the species level. More then 300 species of the genus Rubus have been described. Many species are hydrides which have only arisen since the great deciduous forest of eastern North American was cleared.
