Description by steve hiker
Born 1850, died 1863. The slab opposite says it was placed by descendents of Millard Haire. The stone is placed with the more well-known graves of William and David Shelton, who lived in NC but enlisted with the Union and were killed by Confederate troops as they made their way home. I wonder if the Sheltons were Millard's older brother and uncle.

Re: Grave of Millard F. Haire
You piqued my interest, so I looked it up. Millard Haire was son of Robert Haire and Matilda Shelton (her 2nd marriage). Her father and a brother were named William Shelton, a grandfather and an uncle were named David Shelton. I guess some of the family was placed to watch over that youngster. BTW, "descendants of" is probably used loosely... a 13- year- old doesn't usually leave many descendants.
