What day in October? The reason I ask is that I started north from Fontana Dam on October 2, 2011 and I know that the high peaks got some snow -- some of which was still there in shaded pockets atop Thunderhead when I passed a few days later. It was very windy and in the high 30's when I crossed the Dam, but the rest of the week was beautiful. -
