Open Pit Iron Ore Mine Near Boiling Springs, PA, 10/06/12

Approximately 1.0 mile north of Center Point Knob and approximately 0.1 mile east of the trail, the remnants of an open pit iron ore mine can be see. A local man informed me that this mine had been worked in the 1800s to mine iron ore for the Carlisle Furnace, which can still be seen in Boiling Springs. This is a view of the old mine looking east from a location approximately 1.0 mile north of Center Point Knob and 0.1 mile east of the trail. SoBo 1069.1 NoBo 1110.0
