Go for it. When do you start? Contact Dan and find out what the lead time is. You won't need a very large pack, but you should consider one large enough for a bear canister in case you want to go to hike the Teton Crest or JMT/PCT in the future. The Little Big Pack should suffice.
One and done. You'll never need another pack.
Keep us posted. I have lusted after a McHale pack since forever. Coulda, shoulda, woulda bought one ages ago.

For the money, you'd think they could upgrade their website.
The web pages are part of the charm. Having Dan build a pack for you involves quite a bit of direct communication. You don't buy a custom built pack and get a real world trial run with a demo pack by checking a few boxes on the internet.
