Default Possibility for a new lightweight trail food

    https://www.duncanhines.com/products...nnamon-muffin/
Like most hikers, I'm always scanning the grocery store shelves for new, lightweight trail foods. Came across these in Walmart. They come in several flavors. I bought a box of "Strawberry Shortcake". Took em home and tried one in the microwave.....it will be added to my trail diet. I've not experimented with them yet but I suspect they would be fine with some boiling water or even cold water. One pouch of "Strawberry Shortcake" contains 300 calories....70 from fat and 51 grams of carbohydrates.

How much does each pouch weigh? I try to aim for +100 per ounce.

It also has 27 grams of sugar per packet. That's verging on can of coke territory. Not good

As per the box label each pouch weighs 2.43 ounces. Calculates out to 123 calories per ounce.

27 grams, nearly 40% of that mix is pure sugar. Just sayin'.

    Rocket fuel!

For a real sugar rush, mix equal parts lemon gatorade and Mountain Dew. 4mph hiking was never so easy.

i saw a similar product by different company. tried it out, was not very good. kind of tasted a little like a muffin, but the texture wasn't even close. Trying it with just hot water and no microwave is even worse. bake for real or not at all.

But it needs a microwave to take on texture of bread.

So you just gonna eat muffin batter?

I tried one brand once. It tasted sorta like blueberry muffin. It had rubbery breadlike consistency, . But it looked like grey paper mache with blue dots in it.

I wouldnt purchase for at home...with a microwave

A guy I work with occasionally eats something similar for breakfast.
He's a weight lifting body builder type and his microwave muffins are some sort of "protein" mix. I don't know but guessing they don't have quite the high sugar levels.... not sure where he gets them, but likely not a standard grocery...more likely a healthfood store...

Thanks for the heads up. I'm always up for new dessert ideas on the trail!
    It is what it is.
