    Why, minute amounts, of course.
    I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

My friend Ray, in his book "The Fastest HIke" jokes bout cutting his foam ear plugs in half to dave weight.
Would half of a foam earplug register on a scale?
About as much as a cigarette paper I would guess.

I know he is always trimming threads off his clothes and gear with his razor blade.

Odds and ends: First aid, toothbrush, knife, flashlight, Aqua Mira and such go about 1/2 pound or a bit more for me.

It weighs heavily on some, but others make light of it. It all depends upon how you carry it.

When really wt obsessed in the past I've weighed different shoe laces and vitamin supplements to see which weighed less. I tried doubled dental floss shoe laces one time to save wt and do triple duty - laces, sewing thread, and wa shed floss. Ewee.

I'd repackage the stock 2 part AM drops bottles into smaller less "heavier" bottles via Glenn Van Peski's advice.

I was so anally inanely obsessed at one time I'd delete the missed ph numbers and read messages on my phone on trail because I thought it made me less encumbered.

It's my constitutional right to keep a well regulated minutia.

On my thru attempt I probably shed 15 pounds worth of stuff that I thought "didn't hardly weigh anything" but would be nice to have.

I call it "Death by 1000 grams":

Sure, I’ll bring the tent footprint, it only weighs 4 oz.Why yes, I do need that whole 4oz tube of diaper cream.I really ought to pack this protein powder and these other supplements, they’re only 20 oz total.I might need that 3rd pair of socks… and a backup tshirt.I should carry both the first AND second section maps just in case.Let me just top off my ibuprofen supply, and add some blister-pack Immodium.

According to my dictionary, minutiae (plural) is the only valid form.

But that would be a singular trivial detail - a minutia. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/minutia

My dic is Leo.org, obviousely yours is better.
Never mind, minutiae hardly ever comes in singular, everybody carries many of them.

Usually, right before leaving for a hike, I squeeze several of them into the top compartment of the pack.
And if I don't, my wife does - but really loads of. Like, half of the contents of her handbag.

Minutia isn’t an object, only the description of an object. Therefore it weighs nothing, unless you consider the weight of the ink used in writing it.

Often, minutiae, such as forum headings, goes unread.

Now there's a rabbit hole just loaded with minutiae. We could mine all those carbon footprints and burn them to cook ramen noodles and roast smores.

Minutia does weigh less than minutiae, but those are subtleties best reserved for BackpackingLight.

You need some real hard analysis and an engineering mindset to really take on the big questions...

How much does your water filter weight increase as it filters, and how much is too much and is that a good way to determine if your filter is fed up with filtering?

Follow up= does carrying a backflushing device then offset it's own weight via removal of filtered items from the filter media? And could you respond in the form of a graph and consider turbidity in your response?

If you consider your food weight consumables, can I use an average of carried food in my spreadsheet assuming I will eat it and it will go from 'Skin out, to skin in'?
Follow up= When my food is butt out do you need to add the weight of a trowel to your baseload or should I just bury it in the food?

What is the weight of water after you drink it?
Follow up= is that equal to the weight of urine?

What is the weight of a smoked joint?
Follow up= can you compare that to the weight of dehydrated pork shoulder?

What weighs more if you wet your bed: synthetic or down?
Follow up-What is the most efficient dehydratd bean to increase gas in case my insulation gets wet?

What is the ideal percentage of alcohol assuming you'd like to drink it and not burn it?
Follow up= can you proof your answer?

Should I bring a bear bag, or just let the bear eat my food so I don't have to carry it?

Follow up= If I eat shelter mice after they've eaten my food did I really save any weight?

What volume of bear canister should I bring for the black bears in the smokies?
Follow up=Can I dual use pepper spray in my cook kit? Or should I just buy the spicy beef ramen instead of plain beef?

Considering your brain is the most important piece of gear you can carry; Are knowledge and experience heavier than questions? Wouldn't ignorance have a negative weight value?
Follow up= It is often said that responsibility and wisdom are heavy burdens to bear... so why would I bring them?

If the devil is in the details will I go to hell if I weigh them?
Followup= If you were in hell you could really cut down your insulation weight, how do I get there?

If a hike happens in the woods and nobody is there to Vlog it, can I reasonably expect to turn my phone off?

"Used to be so willfully obtuse, or is the word abstruse?
Semantics like a noose, get out your dictionaries"
