The map on the SNP website is out of date. It still shows Panorama as a place to pick up a back country camping permit. Where are the best places to pick up a permit, especially near Thornton Gap?
Thanks

And, on the drive up to the entrance station, you'll find a walk-up box with back-country permits. As you approach the pay windows, the box is just off the road on your right.
If the box is empty (as it was for me), try to flag down any ranger (as I ended up doing).
Thanks GoldenBear, that's just what I needed to know.
Is a back country permit needed if one is staying at an AT shelter in Shenandoah?
Anyone spending one or more nights are required to obtain a BC Permit

You never know which one is talking.
