Kudos to the rescuers, who must be strong as oxen to carry this guy down a mountain.

Not really a hiking dog 190 lb. Mastiff right? Maybe the c&o canal but the mountains of Utah? I guess if you train him or her from a pup to hike being that big he can carry everything like a sherpa.
Wow. Great story. Thanks for sharing!
I'm not lost. I'm exploring.
What was the injury?
Not sure. Probably something like "malaise of the spirit."
The rescue team's Facebook page has over 4,900 unique 'likes' for this particular rescue, with many wanting to donate to express thanks and admiration.
If the link works, you can see a brief video of Big Floyd being carried down the mountain. Lots of other great pics on their homepage, too.

I doubt Giant Floyd was the one who chose to go off hiking in the Wasatch - for the 8 hours per day he wasn't normally sleeping.
Yeah poor dog was like where the hell are we going and when are we stopping? And when he was done.......... he was done..........
One of the PCT books I listened to mentions a Llama that did the same thing. Some folks had a couple of pack Llamas. Coming off one of the passes in the Sierra, I think, one just sat down on the trail and was done walking. I don't think it was injured, just over it.
...reminds me of Bartleby the Scrivener. Anyone remember that?
Heartwarming video. New respect for the giant mastiff breed. My catahoula hound has me trained to carry her food and water, pick up her poop and keep her in a warm safe shelter at night. Better not let her see this video!
FYI , Big Floyd would not get the same treatment in NH. NH F&G who coordinates rescues does not rescue pets. There are fairly frequent requests to carry dogs down off the northern presidentials as the rocks are very effective at tearing up a dogs pads (even thruhiker dogs who have hiked all the way from Georgia).
